I don't know why, but we have a gnat problem right now. They are coming out of the drains. I have poured boiling water, and bleach, to no avail. They still keep coming. I give up. I bought the Hoont Plug-in Wall Sconce Sticky Fly Trap Catcher and Killer with Bright UV Light Attracter to put in my laundry room, where they seem tto be the worst. The gnats are still coming, but when they hit that sticky trap, they're done for! Maybe the more I catch, the less that will come.
