I am an avid gardener, and I refuse to use chemicals to fertilize my garden. I use compost for the best effects on my plants.
I usually have a bowl sitting beside my sink that I put my compostable kitchen scraps in. I keep this covered with an inverted plate. I carry it out to the garden every evening, or it smells, and I get little gnats flying all over the place. Not the prettiest system, but it was all I had.
Now I have this neat stainless steel compost bin! It is so much nicer sitting by my sink. The lid seals nicely, cutting out any odors. There is an odor-absorbing dual activated carbon filter in the lid that soaks up any smell. The bucket is stainless steel and easily cleaned with warm water and soap.
I may try to find some biodegradable bags to fit inside. This way, I can just bury them in the garden and the whole thing will compost in without me having to handle the scraps in any way. I usually take them out and spread them by hand under my plants. My hands smell really bad after doing this.
This compost bin has been one of the best gifts I've given myself in a while. Now to figure out where to purchase extra filters, as these state they only last y months.
