I am a certified scuba diver, and having a camera with you is a must! You see so many beautiful things when you dive. Unfortunately, I have learned the hard way that it sucks when you loose a camera while diving.
When I saw the JoyQi floating hand grip stick offered for review, I knew this would be a nice addition to my gear. After ordering, the grip arrived in a timely manner.
The grip stick is covered with a coated sponge, which helps it float. The grip is larger than other floats I've seen, making it more comfortable to hold. It is not as long as some self sticks when extended, but I'm OK with that. It also has an included wrist strap for attaching around your wrist so you don't loose it. I went one step further, and attached a retractable line to it, so that I as able to attach it to my BCD. That way, I don't have to hold it all the time, but it stays with me, regardless of whether I'm holding it or not.
The handle also has a small storage space in it. I take my car key and put it in here, then fill the compartment with water, for neutral bouyancy. This way, I can safely lock my vehicle, and not worry about losing the key while on a dive.BCD pockets are notorious for loosing things if not secured right.
My only suggestion would be to paint the grip a brighter color. When diving in murky water, it is hard to see. Other than that, I am happy with my grip stick.
